On 24th July, AgVocateWA was fortunate to take a group of farmers and students on an exclusive tour of the Milne Feeds Welshpool Plant.

The Welshpool Plant is Australia’s largest ruminant feed mill, with Milne Feeds having been a leading stock feed producer in Western Australia for more than 110 years. Throughout this time, Milne Feeds has built a strong reputation for technical excellence in product development and production.

The tour provided attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the Milne Feeds facility and learn from their team of industry experts. The group was taken through the state-of-the-art laboratory, where the main laboratory technician provided an insight into how Milne Feeds develops and produces its products, as well as the importance of the extensive testing processes undertaken to ensure their products continue to meet their high standards of technical excellence.

The tour of the new mill was a highlight of the day. From grain delivery and dust suppression requirements through to the production of the final product and loading of trucks, attendees were impressed by the scale, technology and complexity of the processes involved in modern feed production.

The day concluded with insightful discussions led by nutritionist Elizabeth Owens and Dr Holly Ludeman. Topics ranged from animal nutrient requirements and behaviour through to feed conversion, providing attendees with valuable insights that could be applied across their own agricultural enterprises.

Beyond the technical knowledge gained, the day also provided a valuable opportunity for farmers and students to connect with industry professionals and fellow attendees, helping to build relationships and strengthen connections across the agricultural industry.
